How to Book a Deejay

When hiring a DJ or DJ service, it is always important to do your homework. There are several factors to consider prior to reserving a date with a DJ. Here are some matters that you should know prior to making your final decision.

• Price - Price alone should never determine your choice of deejays. There are several companies out there that will promise the world for a cut rate price. Is it possible for these independent deejays or small companies to be true professionals if there prices are far below the average? Remember, a DJ for less is probably less of a DJ. A professional company will charge a competitive rate based on your market area. Generally speaking, you should be offered discounts for events during the week or during the day.

Here at The Mid Atlantic Professional DJ Association our prices are very competitive. As professional is our middle name, you can expect that our service and prices are among the industry standard and consistent with other professional DJ services.

• Staff - Some independent deejays and DJ services only have one or two deejays to choose from. In these instances, you are stuck with what you get. Sometimes, personalities do not mesh and with one or two choices, you may not get a DJ well suited for your event. Is this what you want?

We have a staff of over 20 professionals, working exclusively for us. We do not sub contract work to independent deejays, nor do we act as a booking agency for deejays. We train our staff in-house through our professional DJ training school. For our clients, this means a staff of professionally trained deejays & emcees along with knowledgeable event planners, ready to make your event a great success. Our staff includes male & female deejays, bi-lingual deejays and deejays experienced with various events. Our clients enjoy a variety of personalities when it comes to scheduling & choosing one of our professional deejays for their perfect event. From casual & laid back, to highly energetic & creative, our personalities are tailored to your taste. We ask that you let us know what type of DJ you are looking for when making your reservation.

• Back-Up Plan - A very important factor to consider is the contingency plan of a company if something goes wrong. You will want to consider a company with back-up equipment AND back-up deejays. You never intend for something to go wrong, yet they sometimes do. Having a back-up plan in place is the best insurance policy so that you will not be let down. If you were to hire an independent DJ, and he/she gets sick or in a car accident, at best, you would be stuck with a last minute replacement who has no knowledge of your event, or even worse, you would get no DJ at
all. With an independent, you get a one man show that, if something goes wrong, leaves you with no options.

We always have back-up deejays and equipment. We will not let you down. Because we care about the success of each event, we take these extra steps to guarantee your satisfaction. For each event, we have a staff member on-call, who is aware of your event and what it takes to be a success. This person is one of our trained professionals... not a last minute replacement. Because we are staffed with more than 20 professionals, you can be assured that our team effort will get the job done. Also, we carry back up equipment to reduce the down time if a piece of our equipment fails. In short, our staff will keep the party going!

• Equipment - Anyone can purchase a few CDs, download music from the Internet and buy consumer grade equipment and call themselves a "DJ for hire" However, it takes a lot more than music, CD players and home speakers to be a TRUE PROFESSIONAL.

The Mid Atlantic Professional DJ Association uses all professional sound and lighting equipment. Manufacturers such as JBL, QSC, Numark, Denon, Rane & Martin are among the best in the world and are brands that we use exclusively. We have legally licensed copies of music on an all CD format. We use equipment, which is built for the demands of the professional working DJ. Our equipment is neatly displayed in professional road racks and cases and all cables are kept to a minimum and are always taped down where needed.

• Experience - Someone new to the business will not have the experience needed to perform for you and your guests. You should always go with a professional yet experienced DJ service. Also, you want to make sure that the company is experienced in servicing your type of event. For example, a great nightclub DJ may not be prepared to handle the needs of a wedding reception. You deserve better than someone who makes mistakes at your event.

All of our deejays have been trained by our professional team of full
time deejays. All new staff members begin in our professional DJ training school. An intense study including classroom, studio and event training is included in this course. Then, our trainees accompany our top deejays to events during their training so that they will gain a first hand account of what it takes to be a top-notch, professional DJ. We make sure that each of our DJ trainees gets the experience needed, under the guide of one of our veteran deejays, so that they too, can be a success at your event. Our staff is made up of professionals with combined industry experience of over 100 years.

• Music - Some deejays only carry a limited selection of their favorite tunes, downloaded from the internet. Others may have plenty of music but no variety. A successful event is largely based on having a great DJ with the right mix of music. Make sure that your DJ will have the music available that you AND your guests want to hear.

Our music selection includes... Top 40, Retro 70's & 80's, R & B, Country / Western, Swing, Big Band, Hip Hop, Techno, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Bachatta, Reggae, Calypso, Chutney, Soca, Soukouss, Modern Rock, Jazz, Classical, Motown, 50's & 60's, Go-Go, Club Music, Adult Contemporary, Irish, Polkas, Traditional Jewish, Latin, Greek, African & More. We encourage you and your guests to make requests. Our deejays have a vast knowledge of music and are happy to play the variety needed to keep your dance floor packed!

PLEASE NOTE: All of our deejays carry "radio friendly" versions of all music.

In your DJ search, you should also consider the following...

Does the deejay you are considering offer an official contract? Will they have all of your favorite music? Can you and your guests make requests? How early will the deejay arrive to set up? Is the deejay in this business full time or is this what they do for fun?

The Mid Atlantic Professional DJ Association reserves each date with an event itinerary, entertainment agreement and a deposit

• We ask that you submit a request list to us and our professional DJ will have your requests on hand at your event

• Our professional deejays always arrive no later than one hour prior to the start of your event

• We are a full time company, with an experienced management team

We are licensed and insured

Hiring a DJ is an important step in planning the perfect event. While some will wait until the last minute to reserve a DJ, you should think ahead and contract our DJ service several months in advance. By allowing yourself plenty of time, you will have greater choices as far as the availability of our DJ talent.
