Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find answers to commonly asked questions. Please contact
us if you do not find your question(s) or answer(s) here.
How far in advance should we book with you?
Make sure to book your date(s) early. Generally a few months in advance
is enough time to plan. During peak periods (the months of February,
May, June, July, October and December) we would suggest booking your
date six months in advance. If your event is in less than 48 hours,
please call our Emergency DJ Service at 1-800-841-2210.
Can I meet with MAPDJA prior to my event?
Yes. We invite you to visit our Kensington, MD office for a FREE in
person consultation. Whether you want to meet prior to booking an event,
or if you are already a client and wish to discuss your event, we will
schedule a meeting with you. Appointments can be scheduled at your
convenience, Monday - Thursday from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm. We can meet after
hours, in some cases. To schedule an appointment, we ask that you call
or e-mail our office.
How much experience do your deejays have?
Our deejays are polished professionals. Our entire staff of professional
deejays has completed our professional DJ training school. All of our
professional deejays have performed at various events, making it easy
for you to choose the perfect DJ from our staff. Some of our deejays are
popular choices for wedding receptions, whereas others are popular
choices for high school dances. Regardless of your choice, you can rest
assured that we will staff your event with a professional. Our staff has
over 100 years of combined experience in the industry.
How do I make a reservation?
Once you call our office, we will issue an event itinerary and
entertainment agreement along with a reservation #. Make sure you refer
to the reservation # when calling our office. To make a reservation, we
ask that you complete those forms and mail or fax the forms back to our
office along with your deposit. We cannot confirm any reservation
without these forms and a deposit. Once we confirm a reservation, we do
not cancel or overbook for any reason.
How do I know if my date is available?
We accept reservations on a first come first served basis. Each weekend,
we have more requests for reservations than we have deejays available.
To avoid this, we ask that you contact our office well in advance to
secure and confirm your date.
Do I tip the deejay?
Certainly, that is up to you. We do not require nor do we add a tip or
gratuity to our charge. If you feel that your deejay did a great job,
please feel free to tip him or her.
How much time does your staff need to set-up?
Generally one hour is plenty of time. For larger events or wedding
receptions, we like to arrive no less than 90 minutes prior to the event
to insure that our deejays are prepared well prior to your start time.
Some events may require even longer or overnight for set-ip. Of course,
you DO NOT pay for set-up or break down time.
What if I change my date?
Your deposit will transfer to your new date, provided that date is
within one calendar year of your original reservation. No need to worry,
you will not lose your deposit. There are times when matters such as
weather or school closings require an event to be postponed. If you must
postpone your event on short notice, please call our emergency DJ
service # at 1-800-841-2210.
What if something happens to my deejay?
For each of our performances, we have back us staff and back up
equipment. We never plan for something to go wrong, but they sometimes
will. Knowing this, we will always have staff and equipment available so
that we do not let you down.
What type of equipment do you use?
We only use professional PA equipment & audio and equipment meant to
withstand the demands of mobile use. Equipment such as QSC professional
power amplifiers, NUMARK CD players, JBL speakers and sound processors
from BBE, Rane, Furman and DBX are among our fleet of top flight sound
equipment. As far as our lighting, we use brands such as Lightwave
Research, Martin, American DJ and Lightcraft. We have come to expect the
best from our equipment, so we do not cut corners when it comes to
quality sound and lighting.
